Person is one of the core concepts of Max Scheler’s philosophy as well asan important concept in the history of western philosophy. Different from thetraditional ontological understanding of the Person, Sheler explored this conceptby means of phenomenology, which was inspired by Edmund Husserl andbelonged to Sheler’s own theories. My thesis tries to figure out the existentialmeaning of Max Scheler’s concept of the Person in response to Heidegger’sdoubt about it.The application of the phenomenology by Max Scheler is mainly to connectvalues to the feelings of values. Firstly, we know about the Person’s state ofbeing and its moral attribute through analyses of the feelings of repentance andpreference. Afterward, we try to distinguish Scheler’s concept of the Person tothe traditional concept of it and conclude that the Person is individual. Thisconclusion is made by exploring the relationship between Person and acts andthe time properties of the Person. In the end, the individuality and the generalityof the Person are united in the feeling of love.Through studying Max Scheler’s theory of the Person, we try to point outthat Scheler’s concept of the Person not only indicated Heidegger’s concept ofDasein, but also exceeded Heidegger because of its ethical and religiousmeanings. We explained the phenomenological foundation of the Person as well.
