Max Scheler's axiology comes into being in specific social and ideaisticbackground. It assimilates the distillate of many ideaistic resources, such as the valuephilosophy of Neo-Kantian, the phenomenology, the Christian and the philosophy oflife. Scheler's theory has unique characteristics and intense practical purport. It paysmuch attention to the western social reality, especially the spiritual crisis in theturning point of modern times, renew or rebirth the eternal order of value and theorder of emotions, so as to rehabilitate the order of heart in modern times. In thisacademic attempt, the modern temperament is Scheler's foothold to analyse andcriticize the modern society, and the order of heart is the starting-point.According to this comprehension, the paper has four chapters to exploreScheler's value philosophy:The first chapter mainly introduces the social and ideaistic background, thevarious resources of Scheler's value philosophy, and his academic standpoint of ethicsof values which was established by the critique of Kant's ethics. It is also theprecondition of Sheler which he can reach his objective in ethics; The second chapter mainly discusses the unique position and the essence of manin the viewpoint of ontology: man is the existence which inhibits the appetency andsearches for the God; the existence of Person and love; the coexistence. In Scheler'sviewpoint, this is the state of man which is supposed to be. But in modern society, theimage of man has changed: man is inclined to compare and compete; is infatuatedwith progress; has nothing to reverence; depress emotion. In Scheler's description, there is a great gap between the naturalness and the reality, and the toxin ofressentiment (French) penetrate everywhere. By all of these, Scheler gives us a viewof the disorder of heart. The third chapter expatiates on Scheler's viewpoint about the order of heart—theorder of value and emotion. Scheler introduces the phenomenological attitude andmethod into the area of axiology; surveys the heart of modern man; anatomises theemotion, finds out the value and its order, emotion and its order, the order of love, and as a result, the transformation of the order of heart. By doing these, Scheler triesto seek the orientation for man and the way to the God, the way to conquer thebewilderment of love, the disorder of heart and the renewal of the order of heart. The fourth chapter discusses the possible way to renovate the dilapidation of theorder of heart, regenerate the spiritual world of the western. What Scheler pursuits isthe harmony of Person's heart, the approach to the value of holy and the Person ofholy. Scheler believes that man should be integrated, gentler, free in spirit andcultivated, just contrary to the man of professional and occupational. In Scheler'sopinion, in order to change the state of disorder of heart, we must start with the orderof love and the order of values which are given in the emotion in heart. These twoaspects can be concluded as: the instauration of new order of love and the mold ofnew Person. The epilogue mainly focuses on the comparison between Scheler and thosephilosophers who initiate the critique of capitalism, especially the comparisonbetween the critique by Scheler and the one by Marx. The conclusion is thatcapitalism is not only a kind of temperament, but also the system of economy. Tochange the system of economy is a necessary precondition of changing thetemperament and renovating the order of heart. It also has great practical value andmeaning to concern and unscramble the value philosophy of Scheler, and it providessources of thought for the investigation and analysis of various phenomena during theprocess of modernization in China.
