The painted pottery is the most representative works of art passed down from Chineseancestors. It was created out by ancient people at the time of very low productivity and thesesimple objects embody the great wisdom of working people.Yangshao pottery, also known as “painted pottery culture " or " pottery era", is regardedas important representatives of the cultural system because of its high artistic and Banpo typeof pottery is a typical representative of Yangshao culture. This type of pottery patterns is richin subject, has fine shape and reasonable shaped layout pattern, which not only has a uniqueand distinctive artistic value but also reflects the social life of national cultural identity thatoccupies an important position in the history of the world of culture and art. This paper aimsto explore and study the shape characteristics of the Banpo painted pottery patterns, therelationship of patterns, colors and shapes and on this basis discussed Banpo painted potterypatterns in the application of modern design and inspiration.The first chapter introduces the research background, research status, purpose andmeaning as well as the contents and methods.The second chapter introduces the relevant historical background of Yangshao culture onthe basis of the origin and development of pottery and then analyses heritage aspects ofBanpo painted pottery culture history proceeded from the discovery of pottery, naturalenvironment, and historical background.The third chapter describes the subject matter of Banpo painted pottery patterns andmakes comparisons of the characteristic of pottery patterns of each period in the Yellow RiverBasin. With multiple use of modern scientific perspective, we can summarize patterns stylingrules and decorative features by analyzing pottery patterns of basic elements, the compositionforms constitute methods.The fourth chapter explores the charm of color, pattern and the shape of the split on thebasis of patterns from the pattern shape, color and the shape. This part also reaches theconclusion that Banpo painted pottery patterns are not in isolation.The fifth chapter is about the inspiration from the design associated with the professionaldesign applications and practice using the creative elements of design.The sixth chapter is the summary of full text and the conclusion.Since the discovery of Banpo type of pottery there has been continuous research andexploration which has made some progress and achieved certain results. This paper aims todraw more attention to workers through this research project in the perspective of modernaesthetic point. And we hope that it will continue to play its artistic value and cultural valuethat can become domestic or international design elements and the inspiration from it will bemore conducive to design practice.
