Rising in and developing in the middle and later stage of Yangshao culture, the Miaodigou painted pottery ushered in the first peak of Chinese prehistoric art development. It was more mature than that created before no matter on the type and content or the technique of expression of pattern. People in Miaodigou gradually abstracted and evolved animal and plant patterns into highly condensed summary of geometric patterns and the most representative is the employment of “point” which plays an essential role in a variety of organizations of patterns. This thesis analyzed the creation and application of the Miaodigou painted pottery from the following aspects---the patterns’ principles of forms, aesthetic characteristics, the geometric and extensive designs of point and decomposition and recombination of the pattern. On the basis of the continuation of the tradition, it combined modern graphic design thus making the redesign of the pattern of the Miaodigou painted pottery come true.
