| As a branch of English for Science and Technology, Petroleum English embodies thefeatures of correctness, objectiveness, complexity, high logic and specialty of EST,which adds difficulties to its translation. In this translation project, the translator choosestwo English specifications: Procedure2.0and FPSO PW-System Debottleneck in oilindustry as source texts. Procedure2.0introduces the dewatering, air drying, Nitrogendisplacement and gas leak test for wet gas pipelines from CFD11-6WHPD to WYE andtheir process, technical key points and operation requirements. FPSO PW-SystemDebottleneck presents five bottlenecks of the PW system on FPSO and proposes anoptimal solution and its operation requirements for each bottleneck. The author translatesthese materials that cover Petroleum Engineering, Physics, Mechanics and otherdisciplines into Chinese with Functional Equivalence Theory and a variety of translationtechniques. In addition, the translator makes a detailed analysis of the translation processand demonstrates the problems, difficulties and strategies applied in the process. By thestudy of microscopic issues, such as professional items, syntactic construction and thelogic and coherence of context and the analysis of the translation techniques, thetranslator attempts to reflect on the translation of Petroleum English from a macroscopicperspective and aims to summarize the translation strategies in the translation ofPetroleum English. |
