The translation of English long sentences into Chinese is one of the great difficulties; it should not merely be the application of the transforming skills in the translation, but the specific combination of translation theories and translation techniques. Eugene a. Nida proposed the theory of "Functional Equivalence", which brings new insights into the translation of English long sentences. In this paper, the author will take the book---Language Management as an example to analyze the characteristics of English long sentences in Social linguistics academic works and to discuss the differences of syntax between Chinese and English. Then the four translation strategies are proposed in the efforts to apply the Functional Equivalence to the translation of academic works from English to Chinese. |
