In recent decades, Chinese filming industry witnesses a fast development. The filming cooperation in overseas shooting or venturing with foreigners is increasing gradually. Plus, English is a language popular in the world, so the need of translating Chinese filming cooperation agreements into English is on the increase. Therefore, it is vital for Chinese filming companies to render a proficient, accurate and normative agreement in English. In this paper, with the author’s once translated filming cooperation agreement as the study object, the author makes a summary of the problems arising in the process of translating and solutions to them.In 2014, the author got a task of translating a Chinese filming project cooperation agreement of 8000-character-plus into English from an information company in Wuhan. the author describes the process before, during and after the translating. Then, the author decodes the agreement text from the perspective of functional equivalence theory. Under the guidance of this theory, the author analyzes the skills and things that the author needs to pay attention to from four layers:lexis, syntax, text and style.
