A Report On The Translation Of The Cambridge Companion To Modern British Culture(Chapter 7)

This translation project report is on the translation of chapter seven from book The Cambridge Companion to Modern British Culture edited by Michael Higgins, Clarissa Smith and John Storey. The book is written by Professor Patricia Waugh. The translator chooses chapter seven as the source text, which introduces the development path of British novels during different periods. The translation project report is made up of five parts. Part one is about the project overview, including the background of the translation project, objective, significance and structure of the translation project report. Part two is about background of the source text, which contains the introduction of the author, the version and main content of the source text. Part three is about translation difficulties and theory. Part four is about the translation methods and case studies. There are many long sentences and parentheses with brackets.The translator takes Vermeer’s Skopos theory as guidance. On the behalf of readers, the translator takes translation methods to ensure the readability and coherence of the target text. Part five summarizes inspirations and lessons of the translation in the project.
