The Research On The Relationship Of Personality Traits And Acculturation In Armed Police National Defense Students: The Mediating Role Of Learning Motivation

IntroductionThe study intends to explore the relationship among personality traits, acculturation and learning motivation of armed police national defense students, and the mediating role of learning motivation on the relations between personality traits and acculturation.MethodThe research was implemented with both a quantitative research method and a qualitative research method by adopting the big five personality scale (short), learning motivation scale and acculturation scale for the armed police national defense students. The participants were all the armed police national defense students from four colleges in Beijing. We used SPSS 19.0 and Amos7.0 to conduct statistical analysis and used the interview method to identify which factors influence the acculturation of the students.Results1.The demographic factors had effect on the students’cultural adaptation and learning motivation including the factors of school, grade, professional and the homeplaces.2.The big five personality traits significantly related with their learning motivation and cultural adaptation.3.The endogenous motivation partly mediated the effects of extroversion personality traits and conscientiousness personality traits on cultural adaptation.4.The cultural adaptation types can be divided into four types which are integrated type, campus cultural adaptation, military cultural adaptation and marginalized acculturation.The research concluded that armed police defense students’ learning motivation can be used to predict their cultural adaptation. The school and training office should reinforce the students’ endogenous motivation to enhance their acculturation level and promote the comprehensive and healthy development of the students.
