A Study On Decameron Under The Perspective Of Bakhtin’s Carnival Theory

In the famous thinkers of twentieth century, the Russia scholar Bakhtin’s proposition is the most inclusive, mainly because Bakhtin covers most of the area of humanities, and achieved many results. The carnival theory is one of them, and has become an independent theory relatively. Bakhtin’s carnival theory is implicated in the interpretation of Rabelais’ s masterpiece Giant. The domestic and abroad scholars are good at taking research on Bakhtin’s literary theory, hoping to dig out deep significance of Bakhtin’s literary theory. Their papers showed uniqueness, and at the same time produced some problems, that they neglect the combination of literary theory and text. While some scholars who studied Decameron are almost limited in the inside of text, the points they put forward are almost similar, so the perspective is limited relatively. It is believable that there will be a different interpretation of combining text and literary theory by new perspective.Different from previous studies, this study’s framework is supported by carnival theory, and its flesh is supported by text, which combined the spirit of carnival theory with text to explain the carnival spirit is how to reflect out from the text of literary, it contains three dimensions, which are ideas, characterization shaping and narrative art. In terms of ideas, Decameron is not only performance the spirit of humanism, which features are anti-feudal church, anti- feudal marriage system and anti-hierarch, etc.,it also contains Bakhtin’s carnival spirits, they are the spirit of subversion, the spirit of free, and the spirit of equality of universal. These spirit deeply rooted in three characteristics of unity of opposites, which involved folk and authority, game and reality, comedy and tragedy; in terms of characterization shaping, Decameron shaped all kinds of characters, these complicated roles adhere to the characters of universal, reflect the feature of heteroglossia. The different combination of hierarchy, characters, values and experiences melodize the tone of heteroglossia, opening the revolution of the lower break the shackles of the upper, all citizens participated in and crate an atmosphere of heteroglossia; in terms of narrative art, it is respectively reflect three features of flexibility, transferability and carnival from three aspects which are the narrative theme, the narrator, and the narrative motif, they coincide with the carnival ideas in the novel, and have high degree of uniformity.
