"Love, again" is a novel created by Doris Lessing in 1996, the book has a thorough and careful description on natural environent of state colonies as well as the real life and emotion of different gender, age, race people. It not only reflects the writer’s sense of mission and responsibility, but also it points out the way for people to overcome the plight and achieve self-rescue. The book contains a variety of topics, so far, plenty of scholars have studied the book on the aspects of diverse fields, including feminism, psychology, comparison with other novels, but few scholars study the profound ethical connotation from the book. Therefore, this thesis tries to use ethical literary criticism to reflect Lessing’s main ideas on analysis of the ethical relationship of "Love, again". The thesis includes three parts as follows. The first part of the thesis is to combine with ecological ethics to analyze the relationship between human and nature. Through the description of Julie, Steve closeness with nature and the Bell Town policymakers’ destruction of nature, the paper analyzes the Lessing’s ethical proposition about human and nature, that it is close to nature, against the exploitation and destruction, and human and nature should coexist harmoniously. The second part is to reveal Lessing‘s ethical reflection and aspirations about the relationship between human and society on the analysis of two aspects involving social ethics detention, the conflict and alienation between people. On the one hand, Lessing emphasizes freedom is the fundamental principle. She advocates abandoning the concept of racial discrimination and rank, breaking the barriers of age, and eliminating the ravage from continuation of the war and violence on the dimension of human and society. On the other hand, she states that the love between people is essential to maintain a harmonious relationship, while the lack of love is the source to give rise to conflicts and tragedy between human. As long as people mutually respect and love each other, they can avoid conflicts and estrangements, and have a better future together. The three part by analyzing the internal and external reasons of Sarah and Steve’s self-division, and the efforts of Sarah to get rid of the emotional plight to interprete the ethical relationship in man and self, Lessing reminds that people should follow bellow ethics on the relation between person and self, that is to understand our true spiritual, emotional needs, find the self-consistent balance with a strong self-will and rational self-reflection, and try to shake off the shackles of self predicament so as to achieve spiritual sublimation and beyond.
