The purpose of the thesis is to investigate Uygur music singing styles preferences among university students in Xinjiang. And what is the relation between Uygur music singing styles preferences and students’ background. In addition, it also aims to provide suggestions for how to disseminate and popularize traditional Uygur music.The paper is conducted through questionnaires. By taking the students from first-rate, second-rate and third-rate university students as the population, pursuing stratified cluster sampling and random sampling as the major channels, adopting 231 students of from 6 universities in Urumqi. The research uses the questionnaire "A Survey on Xinjiang University Students’ Preferences of Uygur music singing styles" as a research tool. The questionnaire is revised and modified before it officially took shape. Upon completion of the survey,213 valid copies of the questionnaires were collected.The final results of the survey are listed as follows:1. University students like traditional Uygur music, since the number of those who "very fond of and "like "listening traditional Uygur music accounts for more than 50%, and it has no relation with students gender, grade, subjects.2.Students’ preferences of popular singing method and folk singing method are divided evenly. However, they have great differences between the preferences of bel canto singing method. As for bel canto sining method, students’ preferences are evenly divided in "unlike" "just so so" and "like", which infers that non-professional students has little perception of bel canto singing method, and they are more prefer the popular music and folk music.3. The preferences of Uygur music singing styles under different students’ background.(1) Gender has no influence on the preferences of singing styles. Over 70% students like popular singing style and folk singing style. It proves that the trend of music is focus on popular music and folk music.(2)As for popular singing method and folk singing method, the subjects of students also have no impact on their preferences. On the contrary, students have no special preference to bel canto singing method. The percentage of ’very unlikely’ and ’very like’ among the students of science is very small, which is similar with the results of popular singing method and folk singing method.
