Advanced Chinese Course in Lanzhou University, also called Chinese Basic Course, belongs to one of the most important public courses, with a total of 4 credit points. The international students of MTCSOL who entered Lanzhou University in the year of 2013 have several characteristics in common as follow:lack of written expressions ability, slightly inaccurate in their oral tone and lack of writing ability. New Perspective:Advanced Chinese aim at the students who have reached intermediate and high level, with features as follow:the book focus on reality, relativity and variety, the texts are all based on true corpus, it has plenty of teaching tasks to let the students have more chance to practice. Although it has its unique features of strong practicality, it also has the shortcoming. As the teaching hours are four times a week, it is too short for finishing the whole book in just one semester. There are several words which are too abstract because the material are all coming from the real life, so it is very difficult for students to understand. All the vocabulary and the linguistic points are explain in English, some of expression is very simple. It is hard for the students to learn the book by themselves. When using Advanced Chinese as the teaching material, it is important to follow the its applicability principle which included regard written language teaching as the main part, emphasis on the negative transfer of language, pay attention to the combination between language knowledge and professional knowledge, focus on the cultural penetration; improve the ability both in oral speaking and writing, the principle of teaching students in accordance with their aptitude, principle of systematization and the principle on linking theory with practice together.Advanced Chinese has its own unique features and special teaching methods in pronunciation, grammar, Chinese characters, vocabulary and Chinese cultural. In this paper, several suggestions for solving the problems and optimization measures have been listed.
