As a separate traditional Chinese painting, landscape adequately represents the aesthetic ideology of ancient china, and highlights the great spirit of painting. From the ancient to the modern time, it has developed continuously, making its content and form more and more diverse and original. Space construction, one of the most critical factors in landscape painting composition, is essential to embody the third dimension and spaciousness, and to represent the massive deposit of emotions of Chinese people as well. The achievement of Song Dynasty in landscape space construction plays a connecting role in the development of Chinese landscape painting history, forming its unique age manifestation.Particularly, Ma Yuan and Mia GUI of the Southern Song Dynasty found a new way in landscape space construction,and created the corner landscape painting which took a part for the whole,and saw big from little with a prominent topic.The clever using of large tracts of white space,portraying the artistic conception of hazy mist of the Yangtze River Delta, epitomized the painting, and played a key role in initiating a new look of landscape painting. Through analyzing The Figure of Fishing Alone On Snowy River painted by Ma Yuan, the selecting of both close and far scene turns the traditional view of bird’s eye into eye level. The far scene painted light while the close painted dense, but the overall was summarized with clear priorities, suggesting an infinite vast space. Sometimes the picture merely showed one of the mountain corner or the water margin, however, the high generalization, extraction, and tailor of the scenery, as well as the rest of large blank area, provided the viewers a broad space for imagination, and made the view of side cape a stronger sense of intangible, as well as of the virtual-real comparison, producing the effect of winning with nothing, which made it more flexible. Although Mia Guises composition of a picture usually takes one half, it is always with a centralized focus and a vast space. His representative works handed down from ancient times is Qingdao Creek Mountain Map. Later generations of artists such as the Song painter Chang Mao,the Ming painter Iv J, the recent painter Gran Shane and the contemporary painter Anglia Yuan, etc.All inherit the marginal landscape of Ma Yuan and Mia GUI.By writing this paper, I have a deeper understanding of the space construction theory of Ma and Xians marginal landscape. In the course of my designing graduation project, I tried to integrate the artistic conception of marginal landscape into the painting so as to create the misty drizzle of the Yangtze River Delta. Besides, the idea of marginal landscape is helpful to my creation of painting. In a word, Ma Yuan and Mia GUI, as the ingenious generation of painters in the history of Chinese art, have a profound impact.
