The Memetic Evolution In The Tang Tea Poems And Its Representation In The English Introduction To Their Authors

Translation is not only a science, but an art, especially for translations of classics of tea, which can serve as a bridge for the spreading of Chinese culture. However it is just at its beginning and relevant research of translations is in urgent need. This report chooses 55 representative poems of the Tang Dynasty when tea poems grew to its peak and the time before as, summarizes and translates the sections of poets and tea-related cultural background, in the wish that this job can provide support for some other relevant research.Meme is defined as a cultural or behavioural trait whose transmission and consequent persistence in a population, although occurring by non-genetic means (esp. imitation), is considered as analogous to the inheritance of a gene. Traditional Chinese culture, like tea culture can be seen as a memepool. Meme in the tea culture needs to maintain its original characteristics, and at the same time evolve. It is of great significance to research the memetic evolution in tea poems.In addition to translation and summarization, this report tends to analyze the memes at this period, with the translations of these memes and proper strategies of translation accordingly. This report can be divided into four sections. In Section One, a brief introduction of this translation task including its significance, requirements and preparation work is made; Section Two lists some theoretical work of translation and memes; Section Three illustrates with specific examples how representation of memetic evolution is shown in the English introduction of tea poets and Section Four concludes the report.
