With the development of national capabilities of China, more and more people are attracted by Chinese, which caused a hurricane named “Learning Chinese”. It is not only the means of disseminate culture and language in classes, but also stand for the great development of Chinese diplomacy. The United States of America is the super power of the world, and it has the culture of great splendor just like China. Although the headquarter of Chinese Confucius Institute set up many Confucius Institute branches in the United States of America, even more than any other countries in the world, the Confucius Institute was still trapped by many situations. When it comes to cultural impact of Eastern and Western, it is normal that the culture between them will be sparkled and rubbed. However, there are many negative news of Confucius Institute in the United States of America these years. The world including America is divided into two parts, some of them are appraising it, but the others are devaluing it. The author couldn’t help thinking what the best way is for them if they want to prevent to be defeated. According to the research of the author, Chinese cultural courses take the most important part in teaching Chinese of the second language in the Confucius Institute of the United States of America. Unlike the foreign students which come to China, students of the Confucius Institute are not only wanted to learn grammar and pronunciation of Chinese, but also wanted to learn culture as well. Teachers may not be able to teach Chinese just according to the grammar as well. Both of them need culture. Therefore, the Confucius Institute of the United States of America commonly set up Chinese cultural courses. However, what could students learn in cultural classes and what should teachers teach in cultural classes? The author couldn’t find any accurate answers recent years. This essay takes William and Mary Confucius Institute of Williamsburg of the United States of America as an example. The author provides some suggestions in developing Chinese cultural courses of America Confucius Institute according to theonsite investigation and data analysis. This essay will use this example to prove that Chinese cultural courses are very important for students t learn Chinese well, and to learn Chinese cultural knowledge could impact students’ learning interests directly. If we want to carry forward out bright Chinese culture in the United States of America which had long history as well, it is going to be a road with thistles and thorns.
