Since its establishment in 2008,the Confucius Institute at the University of St.Thomas in Chile has been widely praised at all around the world,and has made great contributions to the spread of Chinese culture.As a star Confucius Institute in Latin America,its cultural activities are worthwhile.The author makes use of the convenience of working at the Confucius Institute at the University of San Thomas in Chile to investigate and study its cultural activities.The author studies the characteristics of the cultural activities of the Confucius Institute,and puts forward specific suggestions for the problems.There are five parts in the article.The first part explains the reason for choosing the topic,the purpose and significance of the research,and the current status of the research on the cultural activities of Confucius Institutes.It mainly includes the study of the types of cultural activities of the Confucius Institutes,the study of the nationalization of cultural activities of the Confucius Institutes,the study of Confucius Institutes cultural activity cases,and the research on the function of college cultural activities.Finally,the author summarizes the current research situation and introduces the research methods and ideas of this article.The second part is divided into following points.Firstly,it elaborated the types of cultural activities of the Confucius Institute and the effects of cultural activities in the eyes of the organizers of cultural activities(volunteer teachers and public teachers)and participants of cultural activities(local people and students of Confucius Institute);At last,take the popular and largest cultural event as an example,analyze its problems and make suggestions.The third part is a questionnaire survey and individual interviews about the cultural activities of the Confucius Institute,including organizers(public and volunteer teachers)and participants(students of the Confucius Institute and local people)of cultural activities.The first part is the design of the questionnaire for theorganizers and participants.And the analysis of the survey results;the second part is the design of the interview form for the teachers and the analysis of the interview results;the third part is the summary,which summarizes the questionnaire and interview results.At last,the deficiencies of the content,form,time and place of the Confucius Institute's cultural activities.The fourth part is mainly based on the data of questionnaire surveys and interviews,combined with actual recommendations for the Confucius Institute's cultural activities,including four aspects: the organization of cultural activities,the time and place of cultural activities and the main methods of publicity.Finally,from the relationship between Chinese language teaching and cultural activities,how to carry out cultural activities beneficial to Chinese language teaching is discussed.The fifth part is a summary of the content of this article and the author's main points.
