Comparative Analysis Of The Seal Art Between Zhao Shuru And Chen Julai

As art representatives of Gongwen School since the late Qing Dynasty, Zhao Shuru and Chen Mai exert a significant influence in Chinese seal history. They play a very important role in the revival and prosperity of round base and are considered to be great artists who receive necessary study in the modern history of seal.This article, based on the original research, respectively, from their carving art features, compare Zhao and Chen’s artistic creation by illustrating different printing types. For the seal art treatment, this paper makes a deep analysis of the rules of different methods. With the above comparison between art forms and formation rules, combined with the author’s own sealing practice, the author identify the basic rules and techniques of expression to guide the development of the current sealing work as well as the inheriting and developing work of sealing art.
