The phonetic changes in Jianghuai Mandarin haven’t been fully discussed in the research on Jianghuai Mandarin. The Gucheng of Feidong County locates in the joint area of Hefei, Chuzhou and Quanjiao in Anhui Province.Gucheng Dialect belongs to Hongchao sub-dialect of Jianghuai Mandarin. According to Dialect Word List in Mandarin (Institute of Linguistics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences,2007), A List of Items For The Lexical Investigation of Chinese Dialects (Dialects Reference Room of Institute of Linguistics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences,2003) and 100 frequently used sentences which in it, the thesis records the current situation of this dialect through the field investigation of the corpus such as characters, lexicon and sentences of the Gucheng Dialect. What is more, the thesis also makes a research on the types of synchronic phonetics changes of the Gucheng Dialect, interprets the reasons of phonetics changes and describes the characteristics and values of the basic types of synchronic phonetics changes of the Gucheng Dialect using the related theories of phonology, phonetics, historical linguistics and social linguistics. The thesis consists of four parts. The first part is the introduction, which introduces the general geographical and historical situations of dialect sites, the overview of the researches on the phonetics changes of Jianghuai Mandarin and Feidong Dialect, the purpose, significance and methods of this research and the sources of the materials in this thesis. The second part is Phonetic System, which mainly includes two contents: initials, finals and tones, phonology characteristics. Firstly, it sums up the situations of initials, finals and tones according to the investigation materials, and makes General Table of Initial-final-tone Combination and Simple Table of Initial-final Combination, which show the combination relations of initials, finals and tones. Secondly, it describes the main phonology characteristics. Initials’characteristics discuss the present pronunciation of voiced initials, similarities and differences between Nimu(泥母)and Laimu(来母).Finals’characteristics are the initials’literal-colloquial pronunciations of Jianxi Kaikou Er’deng (见系开口二等),the medial sound of Duanxi Hel :ou(端系合口),the nasal Yangsheng Yun(阳声韵)and the merge of the endings of Shenzhenzenggeng She (深臻曾梗摄),etc. Two issues are discussed on tones’characteristics. The one is the differentiation of tone, which because of voiced and sub-voiced. The other is that ancient Rusheng(入声)nixed with Shusheng('声)The third part is about the synchronic phonetics changes, which mainly studies the types, the functions and the reasons of the synchronic phonetics changes of this dialect. The synchronic phonetics changes of the dialect are divided into five basic types in accordance with the investigation materials. There are some examples given to discuss the functions of these phonetics changes types in the spheres of phonetics, semantics, and pragmaticsin details. Finally, the reasons of these phonetics changes are discussed from two aspects:the stimulating phase and spreading phase of phonetics. The last part is the summary. This part summarizes the phonology characteristics of Gucheng dialect and mainly summarizes the related conclusions of synchronic phonetics changes. The Main Conclusions of the research are drawn as follows:First, the synchronic changes of the Gucheng Dialect’s phonetics are complicated, which mainly include five basic types:assimilation, dissimilation, weakening, reduction and mixture phonetics changes. Second, phonetics changes are not only the changes of initials, finals and the tones, but also the changes of semantics and pragmatics. The synchronic phonetics changes reflect the developing direction of the phonetic system, and they also enlarge the vocabulary of the dialects. The major functions are as follows:distinguishing the meanings, adding the emotional color of the words, changing the nature and structure of the words, and prompting the purpose of the dialogue and the context of the communication. Third, the synchronic phonetics changes usually are the results caused by various kinds of reasons that can be investigated from the stimulating phase and spreading phase. The stimulating phase mainly considers the principle of convenience in communication and the characteristics of the dialect’s phonetic system structure. The spreading phase mainly considers the language’s structural features and the social factors related with language communication, however, some phonetics change needs to be analyzed according to the specific situation.
