Now, with the eyes turning to the historical society, the historian focus on Patriarchal Clan history which is based on the population structure. There is big difference between scholars from Taiwan and Inland China, one make full use of an area of genealogy data to a family to do a detailed study of the population, and the other one is more concern about the rise of the clan, the organizational structure, the ancestral hall and ancestral tomb,genealogy and clan rules, production, the tradition for culture and teaching business fashion, case study and so on. But they rarely mentioned the specific conditions of the population, such as marriage, birth, death and other issues. These are what mainly mentioned in this paper, taking Huizhou Xiuning Su Clan two genealogies as the main historical materials in Ming Dynasty, combine Huizhou local chronicles with the Ming Dynasty literature,to find out the Huizhou Xiuning Su Clan population situation.In a word,this article is based on the family genealogy, using the method of historical demography, to explore the significance of the clan population vital statistics, to declare the member of the clan marriage, the clan population birth and death, and the seasonal rules of the birth and death,and to explore the inseparable relation between the clan population with the social politics and economy.Chapter 1 The main discussion is the clan genealogy materials. First of all,one suitable genealogy should be selected from the complex genealogies to follow certain principles.The best choice is Huizhou Xiuning Su Clan genealogy which is easy to read,clearly visible. The original history material should be reorganized by completely and carefully. Also an illustration should be made and pointed out the defect about the material. After research, we found that the complete degree and the time depth are just suitable for the population research. Moreover, Huizhou small Clan will be introduced in this article.Chapter 2 As mentioned that the main topic is the marriage situation of the Su Clan. The study is started from the Su Clan background and marriage patterns. As we all known,the economic base determines the superstructure.To understand the marital status of the population must be the first account of the background. This paper has proved that small clan also has the power to develop the continuation of the policy and economy from the two aspects of the political and economic background and the inheritance and development of demonstration. And then there are a few forms to show that the marriage times between male and female in Su Clan, the age gap between one couple, living alone who’s wife or husband die, and to get the rate of remarriage.In the end,conclusions have been made that the marriage times are related to scholarly honor or official rank;It is a common phenomenon that the age of male is elder than female in the Su Clan. The reason for male lost their wife is that it is easy for female to die during their birth period and that female widowed is more widespread.Chapter 3 The main topic is the birth of Su Clan. In order to calculate the population growth rate,first should calculate the number of children for one couple. According to the form,children are not so many for the family one man with several wives. The data indicates that one man normally has 2 children, and may have 1.5 wives. This article use form to show female and male who are getting marriage in the different age have birth to children, the data shows that male have 1.5 children in their 25-29 years old,and female have 1.1 children in their age of 20-24 or 25-29 years old. Moreover there is no children policy in the past years according to the broad birth curve. The male and female have their birth in an interval of 6 years, it is more longer than other Clan. The rush birth time is Autumn and Winter, Summer is the opposite. That proves the birth has greatly affected by farming season during, the traditional agricultural society.Chapter 4 Death is the main topic in the forth chapter. In order to calculate the death rate of the Su Clan population, to research the 14 different death age found that Su Clan in the longevity of the number is relatively high, mostly women. According to the previous method,use the calculation of the level of life expectancy to estimate the mortality level. The life expectancy of three branches and members of approximately between 35-45 years old, the difference between male and female about 3 years, relatively high. This evidence has certain relationship with stability and less war in Huizhou. In order to estimate roughly the population quantity of the clan, should calculate the population survival rate. The death of seasonal corresponding clan population, the death peak in summer and winter, low peak at the turn of spring and summer, death is an irresistible factor, the majority of deaths are caused by natural calamities and man-made misfortunes.
