The Tangled Relationship Of Urban And Rural Areas: The Research Of Urban And Rural Binary Issues In Local Film Of Three Decades (1978-2008)

Since the appearance of division between urban and rural areas, conflicts and integration between them has always been existed. Development speed of urban areas is faster than rural areas, due to its advantages in geographical and policy aspects. As a result, the gap between urban and rural areas has become more and more larger, and what is more, the opposing between them has also been deepened, especially in cultural fields. Due to acceptance and opening to civilization, the atmosphere of urban areas is more civilized and innovative than the rural areas.Local film pays much more attention on worrying condition of cultural crisis. It tends to evoke local complex of the public by describing countryside living scene and telling unique folk customs. Through constructing spiritual home for lonely people, the local film comforts and solaces people’s mind and heart.After the reform and opening up, more and more local films have been created. Not only can they presenting folk customs, but also can analyze the reason of cultural crisis. In addition, the local film tends to state and present conflicts and integration between urban and rural areas with lens language. Usually some local films are tendentious, with the subjective cognition of directors.The Local film of new period has been experienced development and changes of three-generation directors. The development path of local films mainly consisted by three stages:rising, climax and recession.The most representative local films are the productions of fifth generation directors, presenting the conflicts between urban and rural areas vividly and evoking country memories in people’s minds.The local film pursues for modernization so that parts of directors has burdened responsibilities of exploring the new path of integration between traditional and modern civilization. These directors aim to reconstruct cultural identification of public about folk cultural, with the cultural constructed function of the local film.Due to the fierce impact of commercial films, the local film has been recessed greatly in recent years, which is in an embarrassing situation. The creators of local films can’t find the balanced point between artistry and commerciality so that their films can’t reach the demand of common people for entertainment.Through analyzing development path of local films after reform and opening up, this thesis choose excellent local films as research object, aiming to explore presenting of conflicts and integration between urban and rural areas. Based on theory of film criticism, communication and film aesthetics, the thesis will analyze creative changes of urban and rural areas issues in different periods.
