A Translation Project Report Of “Governance Of Risks Of Shale Gas Development:Workshop Summary”(Excerpt)

Shale gas development marks a profound reform on the global energy market. Shale gas has been an increasingly important source of natural gas, and many countries have aroused their attention on the governance of risks of shale gas development. This is a translation project report of an excerpt of “Governance of Risks of Shale Gas Development:Workshop Summary” by Paul C. Stern. This excerpt summarizes some main topics discussed during the workshop on the issue of governance of risks of shale gas development: problems and challenges, government management, technical support, federal and state regulation.The main contents of this report are divided into four parts: Chapter One is the translation project description, including project background, objectives and significance. Chapter Two is the research introduction, including the translation theory and the author’s information. Chapter Three is about translation difficulties and methods, which use literal and free translation, affirmation, negation, addition etc. to deal with the conditional and long sentences. Chapter Four concludes with the lessons, implication and unsolved problems. The translation was done under the guidance of Peter Newmark’s communicative translation which uses domesticating and free translation as its methods to make the target readers to conceive the translated text the same as the original readers has done, so as to provide references for all parties involved in risk governance of shale gas development.
