A Report On The Translation Of Shale Gas Production Processes (Excerpts)

This is an English-Chinese translation practice report.The English version is the third chapter from the book Shale Gas Production Processes,which provides some related guidance and procedures on shale gas production technologies including well drilling,well completion and hydraulic fracturing technology.As a branch of English for science and technology,English for petroleum has the general features of EST,such as the frequent use of passive voice,long and complex sentences.The report takes the Skopos theory as guidance for the translation of English for petroleum.Following the skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule,the report analyzes in detail some translation cases on the lexical,sentential and textual level.This report consists of four parts: task description,process description,case analysis and conclusion.On the basis of the whole translation process,the translator analyzes the encountered problems with the help of Skopos theory,and offers some effective methods and strategies to improve translation competence,in order to provide some enlightenment for the future translation practice.
