In view of the large demand for American teleplays in China, in recent years, the role of subtitle translation into Chinese has gained prominent attention. Subtitle translation, as a newly-emerging and particular translation genre, is becoming an integral part of translation field. It begins to play an essential role of bridging original American TV dramas and the Chinese viewers, to provide convenience for Chinese audiences who appreciate original American teleplays. However, compared with traditional researches, subtitle translation study is farfrom mature and systematic.Given this situation, it is indispensably necessary to make a study of subtitle translation of American teleplays. This report is based on the translation practice of Two Broke Girls, one of the favorite American sitcoms both in the U.S. and China, and tries to do research in the field of humorsubtitle translation with the help of Skopos theory.Skopos theory is put forward by Reiss and Hans J. Vermeer, and develops in Germany in the late 1970 s. This theory focuses above all on the purpose of the translation, which determines the translation methods and strategies that are to be employed in order to produce a functionally adequate result. In this report, through analyzing many humor subtitle examples from American sitcom Two Broke Girls, while applying the skopos rule, coherence rule as well as fidelity rule of Skopos theory, the author lists out some practical translation strategies such as paraphrase, adaptation, meaning extension etc. and hope this would be helpful for the practical translation of American sitcoms especially forspecific type like Two Broke Girls.
