Zheng Gu, a famous poet in late Tang Dynasty, is famous for the poem called "Partridge", which records the steps of how Tang Dynasty destructed in the history, and Zheng Gu has been being called the "history of poetry". In contemporary research, Zheng Gu is an easily neglected poet by the scholars, while in the era of his life, his position could not be ignored, and he had a very important influence on the poet world in late Tang and even early Song Dynasty. In the world of the poets in late Tang Dynasty, Zheng Gu was influenced by three mainstream poems. Not only inherited them, at the same time, he internalised them for his own poem style as well, then fully became unrivalled in literary circles and a giant in late Tang Dynasty. In this paper, the author would make systematic research of Zheng Gu’s poems, and give further analysis of his poetry artistic characteristics, and discusses his poetry embodied in Zen thought.The research is on Zheng Gu and regards his poetry as the research object, and this thesis is divided into seven parts:The introduction simply pointed out that social environment poet living under the literary atmosphere;The first chapter mainly enumerated the general study of academics on poet Zheng Gu before Qing Dynasty and in Modern Times and also particularized the major innovations of this article.The second chapter introduces the life of Zheng Gu and formation of his poetry, analysing the causes of the poetry form since Zheng Gu was born in the end of Tang Dynasty, and points out its poetry aesthetic taste;The third chapter summarises the theme and connotation of Zheng Gu’s poetry, focusing on four themes to analysis, chanting poetry, poetry about injuries from confusion, Hermit poems and poems for sending drinking, and analyses its artistic style;The fourth chapter analyses and discusses the Zen thought under the historical influence in the late Tang Dynasty, and the consciousness and origin of Zen buddhism in Zheng Gu’s poems;The fifth chapter combines the previous discussions, and gives comprehensive evaluation of Zheng Gu’s poetry.Finally, the summary of the full text.
