Zheng Wenbao(953-1013) was a poet, historian, calligrapher and official in Five Dynasties and the early Song Dynasty. He was born into a military family and became an attendant of the Southern Tang’s prince Zhongyu because of his father’s postion. He was intimate with many of the literary figures of his day. For his affection for old country, Wenbao was always to give an accurate and exhaustive account of it. Most records in Nan-Tang Jin Shi and Jiang Biao Zhi evolved from rumors which is valuable to the research of the Southern Tang.The article tackles Zheng Wenbao and his two works, Nan-Tang Jin Shi and Jiang Biao Zhi as the subject, including the author’s life and works; the versions and regulations of the two books; the exploration on the books’ historical value and contribution into research of the litetrature and history of the Southern Tang.
