This translation report analyzes general difficulties as well as possible strategies and solutions in the English-Chinese translation of the book(the last two chapters): Beyond Positive Thinking: A No-Nonsense formula for Getting The Results You Want. The original text is written by American writer Dr Robert Anthony and it is mainly about the importance of people’s giving up fantasy, knowing the biggest obstacle to happiness and how to overcome it. Readers can get inspiration from them and make meaningful changes to their lives. It offers workable, step-by-step methods to help readers personalize goals, trust creativity, transcend old beliefs and limitations, and transform positive thinking into positive action. The text belongs to the informative type, and the language is easy to understand, simple and vivid. In the process of translation, specific translation skills should be adopted under the guidance of some cafeterias or theories. Translation theory and translation strategies are essential to make sure the mood and the style of the text. Thus, the translator aims to apply famous American translation theorist Eugene Nida’s “dynamic equivalence” translating theory to explore possible solutions to problems encountered during the translation process. In this translation report, the translator firstly analyses problems encountered in the translation process. Then key points and difficult points of the translation practice are summarized and corresponding solutions are given under the guidance of dynamic equivalence and translation strategies such as literal translation, reduction, addition, adaptation, annotation etc. Through this translation practice, the translator aims to gather translating experience about informative texts and more importantly deepen understanding about translation theories and skills for further study.
