The Research On Geographical Recognition Of Sichuan In Qing Dynasty

There is a large number of travel notes of Sichuan in Qing Dynasty.The travel notes are rich in content,which record and trace the weather and climate,moutains,animals and plants,transportation,and customs of Sichuan area.Many records are lack in the official history and local chronicles. The travels have significant value of historical geography,and enrich the geographical understanding of Sichuan region in Qing Dynasty. In the light of no specialized research on Sichuan travel notes of Qing Dynasty in the academic circles,this article mainly discusses on the understanding of Sichuan relevant geographical elements of the Sichuan travels from the two aspects of natural and human geography.It also comments on the characteristics and value of the geographical recognition of Qing travel notes.All these mentioned earlier are based on variously gathering and sorting out the related travel documents of Sichuan in Qing Dynasty.This paper will mainly relates and analyzes from the following parts.Chapter Ⅰ will mainly discuss general situation of Sichuan travel notes. It list the related travel notes from the point of travelling and visitting.Then it analyzes the relevant issues of the authors of travels.Chapter Ⅱ will study the Qing travels’ textual research on the Physical Geography of Sichuan region, which includes the geographical elements,such as the phenology and meteorology,mountains,plants and animals,mineral resources,etc. The enumerating geographical elements are most singular and rare natural resources that the travel notes record.It also reflect the unique vision of the contents of the travels.Chapter Ⅲ will research the Qing travels’ ctextual research on the humanistic Geography of Sichuan region,which includes the traffic problems of the travelling authors to get in and out of Sichuan, like the traffic routes and transportation.This part points out the main path that the authors choosed when they came in and went away from Sichuan area at that time. And this section illustrates bad road condition that lack of transport links to other palces.ChapterⅣ will analyze the characteristics of geographical recognition of Qing travels in Sichuan area from the sides of universality,time continuity and unconsciousness of Qing travel notes’ geographical understanding of Sichuan region. In addition, this part will elaborate the Qing travels’ complementary value to historical documents,such as the official history books,local records,etc.
