The Study On The Comparison Of Radical "Yu" In Notes To Interpreting Words And Phrases And The Reading Of Interpreting Words And Phrases

Interpreting Words and Phrases (simplified as Interpreting Language in the following sections) is the first wordbook in our country and has many researchers after its accomplishment among the later generations. Among them Notes to Interpreting Words and Phrases(simplified as Notes in the following sections) by Duan Yucai in the Qing Dynasty has the greatest achievement. Undeniably, this theoretical work is also well-known and has received numerous comments by the scholars.The Reading of Interpreting Words and Phrases (simplified as Reading in the following sections) is another theoretical work by Duan Yucai and has set foundation for the author’s writing of Notes. Yet this book is known by few people and the researchers on it are much fewer than the ones on Notes.This dissertation is based on the first edition of Notes published in October 1981 by the Chinese publishing company and the first edition of Reading published in September 1995 by the Beijing Normal University publishing house and makes systematic comparative and analytic study on the Radical "Yu" in these two theoretical works to summarize the sameness and differences in them and to make clear the changes in Duan Yucai’s thoughts in the whole process in his study on Interpreting Language.Both Reading and Notes are Duan Yucai’s works that record his research on Interpreting Language. Both the two works are consistent in thoughts and have their own uniqueness. This dissertation carries out the research from the micro perspective and respectively makes the analysis and comparison of the interpretations of Radical "Yu" in Reading and Notes in order to summarize and generalize the development in Duan Yucai’s academic thoughts.The dissertation consists of four chapters:Chapter one:a brief introduction to the author, Reading and Notes and explanation on the current research situation of these two book, the research objectives, research value and research methods on this research topicChapter two:The comparison of Radical "Yu" in Reading and Notes:explore the concrete differences in the interpretation of Radical "Yu" in Reading and Notes through the respective comparative analysis of the interpretations of Radical "Yu" from the micro perspectives.Chapter three:The Comparison and Generalization of Radical "Yu" in Reading and Notes:the summarization and generalization of Chapter Two; the generalization of the interpretation and comparison findings of Radical "Yu" in the two books from the four aspects of word explanation style, the omission methods; the interpretation methods and the creation attitudes to come to the regularity conclusions.Chapter four:The development on Duan Yucai’s views on language and words from the interpretations of the Radical "Yu" in both Reading and Notes. Based on the previous two chapters, there is the summarization on the development on Duan Yucai’s views on language and words from the five aspects of emendation, words, phonology, word explanation and methods of interpretation.
