Premier’s Meeting the Press held every March has been one of the most eye-catching press events for media community across the world. Staged by the Chinese government as an official window to more knowledge about China, the press conference is designed to announce to the the world China’s current issues and policies and the Chinese government’s messages and decisions. Since the language at the press conference demonstrates distinctive Chinese features and Chinese and English differ in language system, grammar structure, culture background and way of thinking, it is pivotal for pressure-bearing interpreters to have knowledge of C-E interpreting strategies for words and phrases with Chinese features in advance.More importantly, words and phrases with Chinese features may abundantly emerge in press conferences held by ministries and commissions of the State Council. In this case, it is urgent to study C-E interpreting strategies for Chinese-specific words.Under the guidance of the Triangular Model founded by Selekovitch, the author uses the transcript of Premier Li’s press conferences for analytical study, trying to summarize effective interpreting strategies for words and phrases with Chinese features and hoping to facilitate press conference interpreting. In the light of Iterpretive Theory, the author lists some relative findings.First of all, the difficulties of Chinese-specific expressions interpreting lie in lingustic and nonlinguistic level.Second, the interpreting process is the process of deverbalization and the interepreting process underlines sense equivalency rather than language equivalency. Considering difficulties caused by linguistic and non-linguistic level, plausible interpreting strategies are offered at each stage of the three interpreting processes, namely comprehension process, deverbalization process and re-expression process.
