Satoshi Kon’s animation works fully reflect the characteristic of animation as a highly hypothetical art form. Transformation between reality and fantasy or fantasies, including reality and fantasy, memories and filming, reality and filming, memories and hallucinations and so on, can be found everywhere in these works. On the space level, Satoshi Kon depicts various types of situations, images and symbols in the world illusion and thus expresses the intended ideas implicitly; in the time dimension, Satoshi Kon arranges the passage and switch of time on the basis of event expression needs, and at the same time the constructed time dimension in the work can confuse the viewer’s eye and mind.The perspective of this article is not constrained to the narrow definition of the term "illusion", but takes its broad sense of meaning and focuses on the forms and ways that Satoshi Kon adopts to show illusion elements.The introduction contains research purposes and significance of this study, foreign and domestic research status, and the perspective of this article.The first chapter gives an introduction to Satoshi Kon’s animation works. In this chapter, the author proves the existence of large amounts of illusion elements in Satoshi Kon’s works through combing their themes and styles. The author also analyzes other filming works with similar Kon illusion elements so as to find out how the setting and expression of illusion elements in Satoshi Kon’s works are related to works of similar type or personal experience.The second chapter analyzes the forms of illusion elements in Satoshi Kon’s animation works, and discusses how Satoshi Kon constructs a different world, sets the mind of abnormal characters and chooses subjects closely related to the society. It also studies how Satoshi Kon uses the above means to promote the mental activities of characters and provides each their illusion with a cause in reality. Besides, it tries to convey how Satoshi Kon thinks of contemporary society by analyzing those illusion elements.In the third chapter, the author summarizes the audiovisual means Satoshi Kon adopts to make illusions in animation. From the technology and logic perspective of visual language in filming works, this chapter discusses how Satoshi Kon delivers illusory feelings to the audience on the basis of presentation and transition technologies and music style.
