As a controversial cultural faction, the Xueheng School always be regarded as a reversionary of the May Forth Movement. This also makes their achievements of translation rarely known by poeple. Not one of the New Cultural union, the Xueheng School has their own translation features on the source-text selection and translation strategies. Therefore, the study of the source-text selection in Xueheng not only shows the cultural background and cultural position of the Xueheng School, but also reveals their different literature viewpoints from the New Culture School.This thesis is divided into five parts. First section is an introduction that introduces the motive, content and methods of this article as well as researches from home and abroad. Chapter two of the thesis presents the polysystem of translated literature during the May 4th New Cultural Movement and the position of Xueheng translation. Chapter three, Using statistics method, analyzes the source-text selection of Xueheng and concludes its characteristics with the history materials. Chapter four, based on Lefevere’s rewriting theory, quests the manipulations of Xueheng’s source-text selection. Chapter five, by summarizing above, concludes the Xueheng School’s conception that another way of the construction of China’s new culture and their specific cultural standpoints.This article combs and summarizes traits of the Xueheng’s source-text selection by collecting and arranging historical materials. Applying the Lefevere’s rewriting theory, the thesis dissect the affecting factors of the source-text selection of Xueheng in three contexts. And in this way, the cultural idea of the Xueheng School and their identity of cultural conservatism with the modern ways have been presented.
