This is a translation report for Skipping Christmas, which was written by a famous novelist John Grisham. This novel belongs to the humorous novel, which describes an American couple on Christmas Eve made an “amazing” decision and cause a variety of ridiculous things. This translation report is based on excerpts from the translated Skipping Christmas, the translation text is about 12,000 English words and has no Chinese version in China.The report consists three main parts. The first part is a introduction of the translation projects, which mainly talks about the author, the text background and the preparation for translation. The second part is the core part, case analysis, which mainly focuses on the proper noun, rhetorical devices, long sentences and free direct discourse, analysis of translation problems and the corresponding solutions on the four categories. The third part is the author’s translation summary and prospect for the future. The translator hopes that through the translation of this novel can convey to Chinese people a real Christmas culture and the family values.
