Katherine Anne Potter, an American famous short story writer, is generally acknowledged an outstanding stylist. She has a few works in her life, but she ever obtained the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize.The thesis analyses Porter's novels by personage's speech mode, autobiographic narrative, characterization in fiction and the application of the symbol in fiction. Thus the paper expounds the artistic feature of Potter's novels in form.In personage's speech mode, this text discusses the novels by free direct speech and free indirect speech mainly, and probes the double narrative voice; It also expounds Potter's works by the drawing in brush style and stream of consciousness, which make the characters vivid.Potter's stories draw materials from what she saw and heard and her personal experience mainly. Therefore her novels embody the vivid feature of autobiographic narrative. The thesis describes the autobiographic narrative from two aspects: First, fictitious world is the deformation from true world; Second, in Miranda serial novels, there is some resemblance between fictional world and true world. And the narrator and personage are the same only in the name.In characterization, Potter's novels let readers fee] two kinds of distinct characters: One is deformities, the other is the serial women.There are many symbols in her novels. Though her stories are ordinary,there are deep overtones in Potter's novels. The symbol reveals the abundant overtones in her works.
