Quyang is the largest stone carving production base in china, which has long history of carving. Since the beginning of the early Western Han Dynasty, craftsmen in Quyang have used Huangshan white marble to build mausoleum, temples, palaces, carved statues, tomb figure and animals. From all over the collected and unearthed stone works, the white marble stone has large time span, varied sculpture and wide spread distribution. Due to the needs of society and fashion influence, its carving theme in different historical stages show different characteristics of the times, generally from the initial single Han Dynasty tomb carved large-scale development of the Northern Buddhist statues, and then from the Tang Dynasty Buddhist statues as the main body, to statues descendant class diversification era stone temples and palaces stone, cemetery stone, architectural stone and common prosperity. Among them, Northern Dynasties and Sui and Tang Dynasties dominated with Buddhist statues carving is flourishing stage of Quyang white marble stone carving. And the Buddhist statues of this period have found and unearthed varying in different size in the country, which mainly concentrated in this period that from Yixian to Linzhang. In addition, Shanxi, Shandong, Shanxi and other places also have whitehead statues and unearthed. The whitehead statue spread wide distribution range and far-reaching. Thus, Northern and Sui and Tang dynasties, Quyang as the manufacturing center of North White stone statues in china, concentrated a large of craftsmen, whose carving skills, style and artistic features statues become a major part of Chinese Buddhist art of this period, on behalf of the then Northern Buddhism the highest level of artistic sculpture and has an important position in the history of Chinese ancient Buddhist sculpture.In the historical development of Quyang stone, the craftsmen in Quyang use white marble to build houses,mausoleum, temples, palaces, and carved statues, who have participated in the constructing and creating activities in many important project of Northern district, and they carved a large number of exquisite carving stones, which has an important significance for the development of sculpture art history in our country.
