| From the first novel Noodles Stand(1959) to the latest work ZhongXiao Park(2001), Chen Yingzhen’s literature works involved wide series of social and political issues in Taiwan, or even in the world scope in nearly half of a century. Among these complicated issues and thoughts, there was a theme which last from 1960s to 1980s in Chen’s novels. We can call the theme Capitalization and the Subject Syndrome of People in Taiwan, which is the focus of this dissertation. There are few authors like Chen who followed the theme in so long a term in the history of China’s left-wing literature. However, this valuable prospect of Chen Yingzhen’s literature hasn’t been studied deeply enough by researchers. The first chapter tried to interpret how Chen Yingzhen observed and reflected the fail of individual consciousness in the background of the imbalanced industrialization and urbanization in Taiwan in 1960s. The second chapter prayed into the core context of the theme above, Washington Building Series, tried to interpret the alienation of white collar employees, who are newly appeared subjects in the process of post-industrialization. The last chapter tried to interpret how Chen Yingzhen made efforts to break the discipline system of capitalism ideology within the novel context by narrating the possible ways that subjects’awaken. |
