Huan Fan is a politician and litterateur in Cao Wei dynasty, scion of a notable and Confucian classics family. His representative is Shi Yao Lun which shows complicated thought, as it is written in turbulent times with many academics interacted. There is still no final conclusion about the school categorization of it. Moreover, its booklet record is inconsistent in different dynasties so that it is scattered. In conclusion, there is no systematic compiling on Shi Yao Lun in academia and few people study it. This article is devoted to collating, annotating and compiling Shi Yao Lun, and studying the source of thought in it based on the above work.The full text is consisted of four parts:Part one is Huan Fan and Shi Yao Lun. First of all, Huan Fan and his basic information are discussed, including his name and Chinese style name, birthplace, official career, political and literary activities and family academic background. Secondly, written background of Shi Yao Lun is introduced in three chapters. Chapter one is inference of times when Shi Yao Lun is written in order to confirm the background term. Chapter two is introduction of politics of Cao Wei dynasty to find out factors influencing Huan Fan’s thought via study on social and political environment at that time. Chapter three is literary thought in Cao Wei dynasty. The thought of Mingfa and Mingli are combined with text of Shi Yao Lun to dig their influences on Huan Fan’s thought of monarch & subject and rite & law.Part two is study on version and collation of Shi Yao Lun. First of all, its spread and version are summarized, including booklist record in past dynasties, versions recorded by various schools and fragmented texts scattered in other ancient books. Secondly, notes on the use are made in the end of the master copy and reference copy used to confirm the collation and annotation. And then the compiled text of Shi Yao Lun is collated and annotated. And in the end, fragmented texts scattered in other ancient books are compiled, collated and annotated.Part three is preliminary study on ideological trend of Shi Yao Lun based on the text consisted of four chapters. Chapter one is Huang-lao thought reflected in Shi Yao Lun. Chapter two is analysis of Confucianism in it. Chapter three is analysis of Legalism through examples. Chapter four is personal ideas about the school categorization of Shi Yao Lun through tracing the source of complicated thought in it.
