Nowadays, the economic globalization and informatization are developing rapidly, international cooperation in various fields is becoming more and more frequent, so legal activities are playing increasingly important role on world stage. Without legal English translation, neither the settlement of cases concerning foreign interests, nor the communication of legal culture with other countries, can go on smoothly.In order to improve learning ability, and explore the translation skills of legal English further, the translator participated in the English to Chinese translation of Property Law Act 1958 Victoria Australia. In the report, the translator summarizes the translation process of Property Law Act 1958 Victoria Australia, which includes four parts-- description of the translation task, description of the translation process, case studies of legal English translation based on some parts of Property Law Act 1958 Victoria Australia, and the conclusion of the translation practice.The first chapter is the description of the translation practice, which includes the background and character of the task; the second chapter is the general description of the translation process, which mainly analyses the guiding principles that should be followed in translating legal text, that is faithfulness and accuracy, clearness and conciseness, consistence, the normalization of the style; the third chapter is the main body of the report, which takes the Property Law Act 1958 Victoria Australia as the study case to analyze the features of legal language, and in this chapter, the translator combines the principles of legal translation, finds out specific translation strategies and methods for legal English text, at lexical level, it discusses the translation method of “shall”, legal terms, archaic words, loan words, common words with specific legal meaning, synonym pairs, at textual level, it discusses the translation strategies of nominalization, passive sentence, simple sentence and long and complex sentence; The fourth chapter briefly introduces some problems the translator encountered in the translation practice and the solutions of them, and makes prospects in the future study.
