This thesis is a study report of translation practice on Maca English abstract translation. The source text is from National Science and Technology Library. It belongs to non-literary domain, which is also in biochemical research boundary. As many words in target language have similar meanings to the words in source text, the most difficult point is how to choose an equivalent word in target language to match the word in source text to maximum extent on the terms of lexical, collocational and grammatical usages. Thus, the research objective of this translation practice study report is the exploration of solutions to the synonyms selection and translation difficulty in biochemical industry and then find out proper translation strategies and approaches that suit the documents in biochemical domain. This translation practice is carried out under the guidance of functionalist translation theory. As the source text belongs to non-literary biochemical industry, which features the characteristics of being practical and realistic as well as being objective and accurate, the major strategy adopted in translation process is foreignizing translation strategy so as to better convey the original meaning of source text. This translation practice report dealt with translation problems from perspectives of pragmatic and cultural analysis. For the synonyms selection and translation difficulty, this research makes the analysis from the characteristics of synonyms and then carries out further study from lexical, collocational and grammatical analysis. This practice study report summarizes the translation practice as following steps:translation task description; translation process; translation theory and strategy; translation case analysis and solutions to translation problems and difficulties, which is on the basis of translation case analysis. The case analysis is carried out from words to sentences in source text. For word and phrase translation, the adopted approaches include: word-adding translation and transliteration approach. For sentence translation, the relevant approaches include linear translation, reorganization translation, split translation and interpolation translation. Besides, this study report carry out analysis and offer referential solutions to terminology translation in biochemical domain. As analyzed above, the major findings of this translation study report is the summarization on the exploration and translation practice of synonyms selection and translation in biochemical domain in terms of lexical, collocational and grammatical usages, which can provide reference value to synonyms translation. Meanwhile, this translation practice study report has some limitations, such as the number limitation and narrow analytical aspects of synonyms involved in case analysis, which needs further and deeper future research and exploration.
