As internet access becomes easy, the video games is gradually accepted by all of us as a unique cultural form. Besides its economy value, as a kind of medium, video games play an essential role in the cultural diffusion and education. It is suggested that, in the history of video games, an apparent transfer trend in platform from PlayStation to PC, MT and web browser. Convenient and fast, video game attracts the Netizen’s comprehensive attention and participation by its unique charm. Nowadays, with the enhancement of China’s national power, game industry has come a long way for development and exerts a subtle influence on people’s way of life.Video games, as an emerging industry, advances extremely rapid with all kinds of themes in recent years. However, the domestic game market is still dominated by foreign games as to the low-tech situation, which has laid the importance of video game import and localization. Previous researches on the localization of video games are restricted by their quantity and depth, which have not yet formed a mature and overall system as most of them stay in the level of methodology.Guided by the functionalist theory, this research report attempts to conduct an analysis of the game market and network data, and reveal relevant problems in the field of game localization, before conducting a case study on the localization of video game Ravenmark to explore the feasible strategies and methods of the localization in video games. The author finds out that a game translation should be target audience oriented according to the game’s features and purpose, and points out those problems that the translator should pay attention to and the guidelines should be followed in the purpose of ensuring the quality of the localized game to improve the game audience experience, and meanwhile it also can provide theoretical enlightenment and related methods of guidance for the translation practice and research in the field of game localization.
