Source Language Effect is a phenomenon that takes place on the transfer from target language to source language during interpretation, which would have negative and positive influence. The interpreter has extremely limited time to think carefully in the interpretation occasion for the promptness of interpretation, in the meantime, the interpreter is also intended to interpret along with SL positively or negatively because of other factors, which is quite common in the interpretation activities. Thus, SL Effect is bound to have positive or negative impact on interpretation products, such as reducing interpreter’s pressure, shortening thinking time, blurring the semantics of interpretation products for failing to come across the cultural diversity, and so forth.Based on the theoretic foundation of SL Effect, this thesis takes the video material of four informal meetings of the President Xi and the President Obama from 2012 to 2014 as the corpus, and applies a comparative method to analyze the SL Effect in terms of vocabulary, grammar and discourse. It further discusses the positive and negative influence of the SL Effect respectively on the interpretation, and some strategies to promote the quality of interpretation. There are more and more interpretation activities with increased communication among countries. Although people continue to learn and understand others’ cultures, they cannot get rid of the influence of Source Language’s culture, and language is just the specific reflection of it. Therefore, it is inevitable for the interpreters to adopt the strategy of SL Effect complying with SL in many domestic interpretation occasions. Nevertheless, languages have distinctions and similarities, so the interpreters not only have to exert the advantages but also have to avoid the disadvantages when utilizing SL Effect. Hence, this thesis holds that SL Effect has completely significant meaning in the interpretation practice.
