Chinese becomes more and more popular and it gets more and more attention from people in the world, thus nowadays “Chinese fever” phenomenon has also appeared all over the world. Now several hundred Confucius Institutes has created around the world to popularize Chinese and spread Chinese culture. Meanwhile the teaching of Chinese as a second language has become a heated topic which scholars discuss enthusiastically. The vocabulary teaching is one of important parts in the teaching of Chinese as a second language. However, approving words and derogatory words among the whole vocabulary is a difficult part in this field for foreign students to study Chinese. As they always cannot identify approving words and derogatory words, it is easy to appear errors in the communication. Once approving words and derogatory words are used improperly in the practice, it is likely to generate some unpleasant conversation for speakers. Therefore, the importance of approving words and derogatory words is obvious in the teaching of Chinese as a second language.Based on predecessor’s research results, the dissertation will analyze the errors of approving words and derogatory words in the language materials from first-hand data, some related language materials of predecessor’s papers and “the corpus of HSK dynamic composition” in Beijing Language and Culture University. According to the analysis, this error phenomenon can be divided into three types, including the error of approving words, the error of derogatory words and the error of neutral words. In addition, it will elaborate the root causes for the types of errors from perspectives ofthe complexity of approving words and derogatory words, the diversity of cultural background, the negative transfer of native language and target language. Finally, it will propose some suggestions from three aspects combining with the root causes for the types.
