In order to research the psychological features including the cognitive factors(attention and memory) and emotional factors(the ability to withstand setback and study-related anxiety) of those students poor in English as well as promote their English ability and healthy development, this paper has screened over the English performance of all students from the third grade to fifth grade in an elementary school located in District, Shanghai. This paper has also classified those students as learning disability group or excellent-English group.The attention cancellation test and the forward and reverse recital test have been conducted. By combining The Questionnaire of Study-related Emotion among Elementary School Students and The Table of the Ability to Withstand the Setback designed by some scholars such as Xiao Nan, this paper has made a study of the cognitive feature and emotional feature of the two groups above. The relationship between the cognitive(attention and memory) and emotional feature(the ability to withstand setback and study-related anxiety) and the poor performance in English among senior students in elementary school has been verified. By comparing the two groups, this paper has come to the following conclusion. 1. The cognitive and emotional ability of learning disability students is obviously weaker than that of the other group. 2. There has been significant difference in terms of cognitive and emotional ability among those learning disability students in different gender, which is also applied to the difference grades partly. 3. The weak cognitive and emotional ability of learning disability students has been significantly related to their poor performance in study. The cognitive ability and emotional ability has also interacted with each other.
