In Ming Wanli Twenty years (A.D.1592), Japan waged the aggressive Imjin War. After receiving the message of aggression, Ming Dynasty took active measures for defence. In Guangdong-Guangxi area, associate Dengzhong was instructed by Governor Yan Xiao to reedit the chouhaitubian written by Zheng Ruoceng in Jiajing and finally completed the chouhaichongbian. This book has certain inspiration significance for analyzing the views on the peril of Japanese pirates and the strategies for defence by people in Wanli. This paper will first summarize the basic situation and background of the pirates invasion in Jiajing and the works of coastal defence called chouhaitubian, which is the basic version of chouhaichongbian, to highlight the conclusion that drawed by chouhaitubian of the People’s views and strategies about the pirates invasion in Jiajing, and the basic role of this book. secondly, puting emphasis on the compiling the background of the new adaptation of chouhaitubian:chouhaichongbian, in Wanli, especially The War of Japanese Aggression in Korea, the Ambition of Toyotomi Hideyoshi inJapan, and the transmission of invasion intelligence which were passed by Korean, Ryukyuan and the overseas Chinese in Ryukyu and Japan, and the coastal defence policy that taken by Ming Dynasty before The War of Japanese Aggression in Korea. thirdly, to introduce information of the author, version and style of chouhaichongbian, arranging biography of Xiaoyan and Dengzhong, and analyzing the compilling event and process of this book. In terms of the content and feature of chouhaochongbian,we will analyze the new content and feature from four aspects:the new trends in Southern Coastal Defence, the new cognition of Northern Coastal Defence, the new thoughts on strategies to prevent Japanese Pirates, and the new conception of Viewpoints Concerning the Han People and Minorities and Maritime Embargo Policy. On the basis of summarizing the book’s background, author, content and feature, by studying dengzhong’s view on the peril of Japanese pirates and the strategies for defence at the start of Imjin War, we could not only understand dengzhong’s cognition and judgement of the interaction between central and local government profoundly, but also measure the level of his cognition and feasibility of his strategies to prevent the peril of Japanese pirates. If we just focus on the geographical locations and geographical patterns of China, Korea and Japan from the aspect of geopolitical, we can draw the conclusion of the importance of the Northern Coastal Defence easily, but in fact, this conclusion is just a kind of intuitive feelings of the potential invasion of Japaness. Althrought Dengzhong’s new cognition and new strategies of Northern Coastal Defence were correct, this kind of representative of Chinese people’s views were intuitive feelings drawed by geopolitical basic theme simply. On the other hand, his new strategies were just concerned of soldier training and weapon repair to make sure the land and coastal defence work effectively. His strategies were lack of the specific ideas of disposition plan and the effective strategies of attacktion. In order to work out these feasible plans, a lot of exploration actions and acquaintance of cognition object are needed. As the war continued, after the court nominated minister and dispatched armed forces,China and Japan had the opportunity of making direct dialogue, which let people have the profound cognition and experience of Japaness and this invasion.
