Marine Elements In Traditional Operas Of The Ming And Qing Dynasties

Scholars and researchers have ignored the marine elements in the chinese classical dramas for a long time.In recent years,with the deepening of the study of ancient marine literature,it is necessary to explore the marine writing in classical operas.I try to analyze the development of ocean literature research,define and differentiate the concepts of "ocean opera"and"ocean writing in opera",and collate and preliminarily study the ocean writing in chinese classical dramas in the introduction.Three representative "ocean motifs" as"ocean tribute ","piracy and anti-piracy military and civilian " and" Zheng He’s voyages "are chooesd to make thematic elucidation which in order to get a glimpse of the whole ocean scenery of Ming and Qing operas.This thesis includes four chapters.Chapter One analyses the content of tribute writing based on belief in sea god and ocean politics is expounded from the two perspectives of palace drama and folk literati drama.And the complementary relationship between public and private narratives is compared.Chapter Two analyses the different images of pirates and anti-piracy soldiers and civilians which reflects the individual standpoints and various reflections of scholars on the maritime distress after the macroscopical investigation of the contents of pirate and Japanese pirates’writings in operas.Chapter Three takes Zaju Zheng He’s Voyages Under Heaven’s Destiny in the court of Ming Dynasty and legend Jinlong Seal in Qing Dynasty as examples to analyze specifically the related topics of Zheng He’s image and exotic writing in the dramasafter sorting out the classical operas known to deduce Zheng He’s Western Ocean.
