Some related definitions will also be clarified. In chapter one, the dissertation will discuss some important geographic names and their special meaning, especially Dai, Ji and Liao, which have a great distance from each other but always appear in one screen. The reason for this phenomenon is that under the military pressure of East Turkestan in the early Tang Dynasty, these places mentioned above is always under military confliction. So the number of frontier poetry about the northwest decline and that about the northeast incline, correspondingly. In chapter two, the question of utilitarianism and frontier consciousness will be raised. In the early Tang Dynasty, people longed for pursuing military merits through join an army and march to the frontier. After An-Chi Rebellion, the territory of Tang Dynasty shrinked sharply. The military strength can no longer match to that in the early Tang Dynasty. So, in the frontier poems, the utilitarianism can hardly be seen.In chapter three, the awareness of critical consciousness and some introspection of the defense function will be discussed in this section. Thorough comparative analysis between Qinghai and Hehuang frontier poems, we can see some opinions toward Tang Dynasty Tubo military policy. These frontier poems also made an investigation toward the defense function of The Great Wall.
