In 1937. the year when the anti-Japanese war broke out, in order to arouse the broad masses’ enthusiasm of anti-Japanese war, the posters became the main form to participate in the anti-Japanese war propaganda used by progressive artists, who actively drew lesson from the style of the folk art and created new posters in order to let more masses to accept the anti-Japanese war propaganda. The issue discussed by this article is that how the art workers created the posters through various forms including traditional folk New Year pictures and paper-cut for window decoration according to the requirements of anti-Japanese war at the liberated area during the period of Anti-Japanese War.Art workers powerfully delivered the values required by the age to the broad masses based on the characteristic of folk ark having a wide range of readers. During the period of the posters creation, the "new" contemporary New Year pictures was made based on the traditional theme of folk ark and some transformation to the original content; during the period of concrete creation; and the new wood block forms were made based on the composition mode technique of folk ark, some changes including shadow, light and shade used by original western woodcut pictures, and new ways of expression used by folk New Year pictures such as lines and colors.During the period of Anti-Japanese War, the posters not only drew lessons from the style of folk art, made a new art form admired by the local people, but also played a positive role at anti-Japanese propaganda. At the same time, the posters at that time also provided valuable experience for our present artistic creation and development direction, no matter the reference of the posters at that time to folk art, the positive intervention to social reality, the art creation from the perspective of the people, and other practice behaviors.
