Zong Baihua once said that beauty is the abundant life lies in harmony with the form. In the process of Chinese seeking for the beauty of harmony, no matter the beauty of personality or the beauty of nature, the unique Chinese aesthetic character, that is the psychological demands of internal and external unity and a modest fellow gentle as a jade will be into consideration. “Tender and Gentle”, a breakthrough of the demand, runs through the whole Chinese aesthetic history.In order to have a better understanding of the aesthetic thought, this paper is mainly divided into five parts. Proceeding from the textual meaning and etymology, the article explains the multi syllable word “Tender and Gentle”in detail. It aims to explain its original meaning, its relevance and the formation of poem moralization tradition. Based on large collection of literature, it explores the history and specific conditions of “tender and gentle”to help the readers to fully understand the important place of the thought-“Tender and Gentle” in Chinese classical aesthetics from a diachronic and synchronic point view.In order to make clear of the specific aesthetical significance of “tender and gentle”, this paper makes a comparative research between “Tender and Gentle” and other aesthetic categories in detail. In the comparative research, this article focuses on the association and differences of “Tender and Gentle” and “Classical Elegance”,“Hidden Excellences”,“the Beauty of Circle” and Western “Serenity” to deepen the understanding of gentleness as an aesthetic thought. However, as the core of Confucian poem moralization, “Tender and Gentle” also has a great impact on other art categories as an artistic theory. Finally, there exists some relevance between Taoism and Buddhism in the thought of “tender and gentle” based on Confucian classical poem moralization. It absorbs the classics of Buddhist and Taoist actively and comes to the way integral with Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism.
