The word “Micro” as a synonym in modern aesthetic culture is widely accepted by the general public. And microfilm is created under such background. The development of science and technology serves as the wings of the sound and graphic art while the arrival of the Network Age has changed every individual’s lifestyle through popularity of mobile terminals and promoted the general sense of aesthetics in China with the aid of various forms of art. Microfilm as a fashion of sound and graphic art has not been acknowledged by everyone. During its key development stage, there is a necessity of further studying on it systematically. This thesis focuses on the study of microfilm from an adopted view of modern sense of aesthetics. After the definition of the sense of aesthetics, there is an analysis of the characteristics of the sense of aesthetics that are closely related to the development of microfilm. The replacement of mass culture for elite culture is the foundation of the rise and development of microfilm. Information-based development has advanced the liberation in appreciation of beauty while the consumer society is depriving this liberation. Informationization brings an unprecedented freedom experience while bringing a fast and convenient life to people. As a data transfer carrier, the Internet enjoys the features of low threshold and high degree of participation, thus providing people with the choice of art appreciation and the freedom of aesthetic activity. However, the consumer society is depriving people of the freedom, and the ubiquitous commercial advertisements and the consumption atmosphere resulted from the entire society have entered people’s vision from every corner like the air. Everything in life comes with a consumption hint which hypnotizes the unsuspecting people so that the seemingly free choice is actually the controlled result. The popularization of the Internet and mobile terminals is a prerequisite for the birth and development of micro film. The concept of micro film has always been very vague in academia. After sorting various views, this paper makes a basic definition and summary of the concept and features of micro film as well as an analysis of micro film related industrial chains and competition situation. The contemporary aesthetic consciousness not only has adapted to the changes in the new era, but also has inherited the traditional aesthetic consciousness. This inheritance is reflected in the topic selection, narrative structure and expression of micro film although micro film is the product of post-modernism. Micro film is rich in connotation despite of its short length, which embodies the feature of getting the big picture from small details, avoids the direct expression from inner feelings but adopts a sense-making way to convey the profound meaning to the audience, and focuses on the little things around us to reflect the social phenomenon. Influenced by post-modernism, the industry chain form and artistic features of micro film have shown the deconstruction way of thinking of post-modernism. Through the deconstruction of the traditional film from form to content, micro film questions the mainstream culture and the spirit of the era, and shows the real values in this era by means of its own way.The era survival and development in The End of Art is the problem all forms of art need to solve, and as a result, it is particularly important for micro film in this environment to establish its own concept in order to get better development. The main points of the analysis in this paper include how to get rid of the restrictions resulted from advertisements, how to attract the audience in a short film screening and how to persist in a more valuable development direction under the erosion of the consumer society.
