Today, with the rapid development of the mobile internet, people are nolonger single individuals, but behave in a way that will have an influence on thesociety in this micro age. The scientific and technological development of hasfreed the human mind from the restrictions of the technology. In the21stcentury, mankind has invented an unprecedented economic system, which isinternet-based and free. In this system, the reputation and attention receivedby people become bargaining counters, which can be transformed into realbenefits at an opportune moment. It is in such a free economic system thatmicrofilm grows up.Microfilms have a certain cultural carrying capacity, and can reflectpeople’s conditions on the Internet and in real life to a large extent. In itsdevelopment in the past several years, Chinese microfilm has witnessed notonly the process of technological innovation, but also the improvement of thenetwork system. In terms of their nature, microfilms are only a kind of videoproduct with relatively unfixed specifications. However, in this age of culturaldiversification, Chinese microfilms are not simply a video form, but havebecome a carrier of the content of something such as films, commercials, hotnews comments and also personal and collective will integrated together, andthe best means for people to vent their feelings, marketers to sell theirmerchandise and organizations and institutions to publicize their ideas andwill.This paper conducts an in-depth study on the survival and development ofChinese microfilms from various perspectives, and it is drafted of five chapters.Chapter One gives a definition of Chinese microfilms, analyzes andsummarize the development from the period of enlightenment dominated byhomemade videos to the period when microfilms are produced by the masses, as well as the characteristics of the two periods. Chapter Two analyzes theinternal factors which influence the survival of microfilms and microfilm-makersfrom four aspects, namely the technical transformation from traditional industryto microfilm industry, the influence of practitioners’ subjective feelings on theproduction of microfilms, the expansion of the concept of microfilms to the fieldof daily video consumption, and the change in practical teaching pattern ofcolleges and universities. Chapter Three analyzes the external factors whichinfluence the survival of microfilms, which factors include the nurturing ofmicrofilms by network media, the network environment that affects thedissemination of microfilms, and the facilitation of competitions for thedevelopment of microfilms. Chapter Four dissects the free economic systemon which microfilms rely for existence. Chapter Five analyzes the publicnetwork life in microfilms and further probes into the cause for the exist andrapid growth of microfilms.From a macroscopic perspective, this paper displays the developmentprocess of Chinese microfilm, and selects some typical cases and phenomenaas the point of entry, to explore the specific value of Chinese microfilm byanalyzing these cases and phenomena.
